I have a photograph in this show!
Swing by for the opening if you’re in the neighborhood!
The opening reception is on Saturday, Sept. 8 from 7-10 pm at the M2 Gallery, 325 W. 19th St. in the Heights.
I’m not saying which photo was selected for the show, you’ll have to come to the event to find out!
Mr. Zippers in his hut
Mr. Zippers has a fuzzy hut in his cage. It’s where he sleeps at night. Our friend Beth was over for dinner one evening and upon seeing Mr. Zippers in his hut she exclaimed:
“Your bird lives in a pot-holder!”
Before turning out the lights for the evening, we like to make sure Mr. Zippers is in his hut so he doesn’t struggle to find his way in the dark. He seems to know it’s bed time when I say “Load the hut!” “Zippers, load the the hut you little green butt!” at which point he grumbles and then enters into the hut and then pokes his head out to give me one last squawk before bedtime.
Cynthia has been unable to get the bird to enter his hut by using this command but he does it every time for me.
Odd since Mr. Zippers hates me with a birdly passion.
High Speed Glass
Got a little “pick-me-up” in the mail today. The Sigma AF 30mm f/1.4 EX HSM DC I won on Ebay finally showed up.
Happy dance!
I’d been coveting something just a bit more wide-angle than my Sony 50mm 1.4 for shooting concerts and other low light subject matter. The Sigma 20mm 1.8 was just too weak wide open. Maybe it’s in need of calibration or something, we’ll see.
I’d gone off in search of this particular lens a few weeks ago and was unable to locate one for the Sony/Minolta mount. The guys over at Camera Co-Op let me play with one on a Nikon and I was quite impressed with the sharpness and brightness of the lens and I pretty much decided then and there that I must have this lens!
The lens was delivered to my office this afternoon and as soon as I got home I did what any self-respecting, dignified adult male would do…
…I rolled around in the grass and shot pictures of wild mushrooms growing in the front yard!
Depth of field is fun and quite controllable and the bokeh is very nice.
I’m really going to enjoy this!
Word of the day
I have coined a new word to describe those of us who have been sucker-punched by the recent Quechup marketing scam…
QUECHUMP
Spread the word
[tags]spam, quechup, words[/tags]
Spammer for a day
Apparently my psueo-celeb status makes my own stinging by the evil-doers at Quechup all the more blog-worthy.
My post describing my shame has been mentioned in Dwight’s Techblog, Anne Heathen’s Librarianne blog and Dan’s Wisdom of a Distracted Mind blog.
And now, JOY OF FREAKIN JOYS, I’ve been linked at Boing Boing….
Traffic to baldheretic.com is through the roof right now.
We’ll see if the site can hold on and weather this category 5 Internet hurricane.
Also, still fielding responses to the invite coming in at a steady pace as well as over 100 invitations to join Quechup.
I am dreading the show this Wednesday….
