Portraiture

While hanging out at The Richmond Arms I popped off a few flashless shots of my friend Owen Finn.

The first one with the 20mm 1.8

The second with the 50mm 1.4

The 50mm is still the best lens I’ve got for this type of thing and I am super happy with it. It’s is so sharp and bright I always come back to it.

I love the potential of shots using a wide angle, though. That is why I have begun to investigate the new Sigma 30mm 1.4 as possible addition to the collection. From what I have read, it’s as sharp as the 50mm I am using now.

It’s around $400 so it’s far more affordable and in reach than the Sony SAL-135F18Z 135mm f/1.8 Carl Zeiss Sonnar T that I have been lusting after which runs $1400, give or take.

Destiny will have it’s due

The Rocrament show was everything I had hoped for and much, MUCH more.

When Jim Henkel recorded those Rocrament songs over 10 years ago I never thought I would hear them performed live. The whole thing was a larf. A recording by a band that didn’t exist. Greg wrote the songs and Jim went into the studio and made the recording on which he played all the parts. Rhythm guitar, lead guitar, bass, drums, vocals and backing vocals all multi-tracked and masterfully mixed into an awesome recording.

Last night was the punch-line to a 12 year old joke, if that makes any sense.

I shot this show primarily with the 20mm 1.8 as I needed the wide angle. I got some really good results!
All the pics from that show are IN THE GALLERY.

Technology makes for strange bedfellows

Exciting day yesterday!

Dwight Silverman arrived at the station with a copy of his new book, Microsoft Windows Vista: Peachpit Learning Series

There are several things that make this VERY cool to me, so forgive me being a bit of a techno-spazz.

1. Our friend Dwight published a book!
2. Technology Bytes now features an author who has published a book!
3. Technology Bytes is mentioned on the back cover of a nationally published book!

In other cool geek news, we had a special guest on the show last night. None other than James Kendrick of JK On The Run fame.

James is an expert on mobile computing and his blog is probably the single best source for anything related to that particular aspect of technology.

Thanks James! We appreciate you taking the time!
