What your are about to see may shock and educate you

An optical illusion is any illusion that deceives the human visual system into perceiving something that is not present or incorrectly perceiving what is present. There are physiological illusions and cognitive illusions. A mirage is an example of a natural illusion that is an optical phenomenon, another example is the variation in the apparent size of the Moon (smaller when overhead, larger when near the horizon), this is not an optical phenomenon, but rather a cognitive or perceptual illusion.

Square A is exactly the same shade of grey as square B.

This is possibly one of the most uncanny optical illusions in existence. No matter how hard you look, you may not be able to convince yourself that the two squares are the identical shade of grey.

Don’t believe it? Try this:

Right click the large picture, save it to your hard drive, put it into your image editor, “select” square A and then pull it down onto square B. There will be an exact match in color.

This method is outlined here if you just want to see it and a flash animation is here

My own private Idaho

Got to see Aqua Velva a few weeks ago. A new music project featuring Mark and David Beebe, Allen Hill, Steve Candelari and two girls who’s names elude me.
They are a straight-up B-52’s cover band and they pull it off remarkably well.
Mark Beebe does a convincing Fred Schneider and David plays a mean 4 string guitar.

Stopped by Sig’s Lagoon last Wednesdays after the radidio show.
Los Skarnales was doing an in-store performance.
Not bad.

Let me out!

My friend Greg had his car stolen awhile back. While he was waiting for his insurance company to make things right he was driving a rental. I was very amused when I saw this.

Yup, a trunk door quick release. And yes, it glows in the dark! Of course if you are passed out or put into the trunk after being chloroformed then the illumination might wear off before you regain consciousness meaning you might fumble around for awhile before being able to free yourself.

The end of an era

Kaveh Kanes is closed.

This is a sadness.

Technology Bytes has hosted our monthly geek gathering there since March of 2002. It was the scene of our 10th anniversary party featuring Drop Trio. It was the only place downtown to grab a good cup of coffee and have some relaxing wi-fi. The space was just COOL!

GAH!!!!

There’s a rumor that two long term employees may re-open it. One can only hope.

In the meantime we need an alternate location for the January geek gathering.
Maybe Cafe Artiste.

Family friendly Fish show

My band, The Flying Fish Sailors, will be performing on Dec. 23rd at Hickory Hollow located at 101 Heights Blvd in Houston, TX.
Hickory Hollow is a fantastic BBQ joint that has a long history of presenting live folk music in Houston.

The show is free and kicks off about 7:00 pm and goes till around 10:00 pm.
Come on out, grab some dinner and lift a pint of holiday cheer with the Flying Fish Sailors!

Hopefully this time we won’t attract the attention of a category 5 hurricane.
