Houston Roller Derby – Governor’s Cup
I’ve decided the candid shots are better than the actions shots for me.
I can capture action but it’s just not that compelling to me.
Besides, there’s several photographers there who seem to specialize in the action shots.
The new lens came through in a big way:
Julio E. Glasses
Bowie Ibarra (aka Julio E. Glasses), Color Announcer for The Texas Roller Girls.

I was struck by how the roller derby rink was reflecting in his sunglasses. Click to see the full sized image and you’ll see what I mean….

Minding The Store
Down on the 3700 block of Main it’s Friday night and Greg Henkel watches over Sig’s Lagoon while owner/proprietor Thomas Escalante takes the evening off.
On Being An Artist (Lend Me Your Ear)
One of my co-workers was ribbing me about my first gallery show and the sale of my piece this past weekend.
He told me that all I needed to do now was cut off an ear and I would be all set.
I told him that had already been done.
After a pause I suggested maybe I could be known as the artist who cuts off other people’s ears…
Blaggards – Up Close And Personal
I’ve struck up a bit of a friendship with Patrick Devlin over the years so I should not have been surprised when he started asking the audience if they would mind if Jay Lee came up and took a picture of them …
I’ve always loved shooting from the stage. It’s a unique perspective on concert photography and I was happy to oblige.
Staring into the face of a Blaggards live audience is a most interesting experience….
Of course while I was up there I took the opportunity to shoot the band
Keep in mind that the lighting in a night club is intended to illuminate the performers on stage for the audience. When you shoot from the stage you are shooting into the lights and into a dark room for the most part.
