New Flint Police Chief David Dicks orders police to crack down on sagging pants

I only recently learned that the sagging pants phenomenon has it’s origins in the American penal system. Prisoners combined one size fits all pants with the “no belts” policy of prisons to come up with this little bit of gangster chic.

The resulting “sagging pants” look was later adopted by the rap/hip-hop community as a way to enhance street cred and, I suspect, as a means of “keeping it real, yo” …

Personally, when I see some young person walking around, struggling to keep his pants on I am not thinking “gangsta” … more like “idiot.”

I’m much more “old school” about my trousers and I obviously had MUCH better taste in pants when I was young.

Nice Pants

Thanks to Denis Leary, every time I see one of these kids with his pants down to his ankles I want to yell “You’re seventeen years old, you don’t know [doodoo] about [doodoo], and PULL UP YOUR PANTS.”

That said… indecent exposure? Seriously? I hope they’re planning to likewise go after the Britney wannabes with their thongs hanging out, then.

To put this all in perspective if these idiots could pass laws like this in the 1950’s they’d have gone after T-shirts and blue jeans for the same exact reasons.
After all T-shirts were underwear as far as society was concerned. If they had their way we’d all still be dressing like Beaver.
It’s a silly waste of time and law and nothing more than the govt. wanting to be the fashion police.
The fad might have slipped into obscurity by now if they’d have ignored it. Cause even the hip hoppers might have eventually figured out it’s a silly fashion and impractical.

Any law created by a guy named “David Dicks” is bound to be suspect.

The headline itself is most noteworthy

A guy named Dicks upset about {butt} crack

This will be the food of late night for weeks to come

I think the law is silly, but not as silly as the pants.

I just laugh, and think of the comic donation that is the only thing many of these nobodies will ever contribute to society.

Plus it makes it easier for the cops to run them down when they flee.

Next: Plumbers (crack): The new illegal crack.

Having lived long enough to know that many laws have allowed the police to arrest all kinds of people for the way they dress, I have to say this is less silly than most. Arresting women for wearing jeans or men for wearing dresses, both of which has happened in my lifetime, is a lot sillier. BTW the link to prison is true, but I was told it had to do with ‘advertising’ you were available to ‘catch’. A look that is sure to impress and get you a well paying job.

I can’t stop thinking about how good money went into research that proved that when people in the work place dress up, in a professional manner rather than casual, they are actually more productive, yet no one has applied that research to this. (I live in a society that prided itself on VERY casual business attire and is changing since this came to light).

Thanks for the last pix Jay! I had a shirt just like that, then too. Looks like your tastes in wearables hasn’t really changed that much when you think about it! big hug.

Dude, ya just can’t legislate fashion, although I use the term loosely in this particular context. Unfortunately, nobody can legislate stupidity, either. But when you combine the two, it’s especially heinous. I admit that I’ve fought the urge to run up behind these stupid kids at the mall and either give ’em the wedgie of a lifetime or yank their baggie britches down around their ankles.
